To research my target audience for a style magazine, i created a 10 question survey, and sent it to my target audience of 'style conscious 16 - 25 year old' by doing this survey I am able to see what my target audience wants to see in a magazine, and what i can do to appeal to them. I have tried to obtain a broad range of ages and genders to make sure my research is fair and representative of my target market
Question 1:
Target Gender for my magazine
The responses for this question was 6 men, and 4 women, these results show that my magazine should be more male focused, as more of my target audience are men, although more of my audience are men I should still market the magazine towards women as they still make up 40% of the responses
Question 2:
Target age for my magazine:
Over 90% of the responses were from people in the 16 - 17 age group, with 30% being 16 and 60% being 17, however one of the responses was from a 21 year old, this means I will need to mainly market my magazine towards 17 - 21 year old.
Question 3:
Does my target market already read magazines?
70% of my target market doesn't read magazines, while only 30% do,this could mean that I need to try to market the magazine to people unfamiliar with the concept
Question 4:
Why does my target market read magazines?
My target market reads magazines because they cover topics they are interested in, for examples 2 applicants read vogue as they are interested in fashion
Question 5:
why doesn't my target market read magazines?
Most of my target audience doses not read magazines as they do not interest them, and that the content found in them can be found elsewhere, some of the applicants also said that the magazines were too expensive
Question 6:
Which Condé Nast magazine would my target audience read?
Over 50% of the target market would read British Vogue, indicating I should follow British Vogues design philosophy, however 40% said they would read GQ, indicating that i could include design elements from that magazine as well
Question 7:
If a new style magazine was launched, what would my target market buy it?
There were many different responses for this question, however the responses show me that I should include some general content, and specific content to appeal a larger audience.
Question 8:
Does my target audience prefer digital or print magazines
Over 70% of the target audience says that they prefer a print magazine compared to a digital one, this could mean I should focus more time on the digital edition of the magazine to make it more appealing to my target audience.
Question 9:
What is my target markets ideal price for a magazine
My targets audiences preferred prices for my magazine range from £1 - £5, this could mean I should price the magazine in between these prices to allow for the most interest in the magazine.
Question 10:
what aspects of style are my target audience interested in
Many responses stated that fashion and Haute Couture would be the most interesting thing to see in the magazine, with some other responses being interested in lifestyle, and makeup. This variety of topics means I should include many aspects of style in my magazine to have a larger appeal.
