Research Task 5: Style Magazine Contents Page Analysis

 What a Magazine Content Page is;

A magazine contents page is a page near the beginning of the magazine which presents the contents of the magazine a way which is easy for the reader to find and understand. A magazine contents page should include the contents of a magazine, the places to find the relevant information, and relevant images to help the audience know what might be in the magazine. The contents page should also be reflective of the magazine as a whole, so it should use the same media conventions as the full magazine, such as page furniture, typography, colour choices and overall theme. The contents page may also be the first page many people see after picking the magazine up in a shop so it needs to attract the reader enough so they fully commit to buying the magazine.

How Content Pages use certain conventions:

Magazines follow certain conventions to makes sure that the contents page is Functional, is easy ro use and navigate, and also creative and interesting to look at. The main conventions of the structure of a contents page are: The title or Heading, Page Numbers, Columns and Grids, Sectioned Listings and Visual Hierarchy. These conventions are used to not only make the contents page interesting and nice to look at, nut they also serve a important purpose, that is to help the reader find what they are looking for within the magazine.

Visual Components are also a key factor in a Contents Page, making it easier, or nicer to read these conventions are: Images, used to incite the reader onto that story. Colour schemes, to allow the contents mage to flow with the branding of the magazine, and to make the page visually interesting. Lines and dividers are also used to section of the spaces within the page to keep it organised and clear to read. white space is also used to give the page space and make ti feel less cluttered and make the page feel approachable, rather than overwhelming.

Other conventions used are to make the magazine more navigable and readable, such as order, where information is listed in the order that it appears within the magazine, Issue Details where the magazines information such as Name, issue number and date appear on the contents page, for readability of the magazine, for future reference. Branding is also a important convention, allowing the magazine to enforce its identity suitably.

Different Magazine Genres may also include other conventions, examples include: News and Current Affairs magazines having simplistic design which focuses of the clarity of the content of the magazine, rather than the design, and is also text heavy to allow as much information in the context page, to match with the style of magazine. Hobby and   Magazines focus on thematic graphics to give focus to the persons interests and attract the person to the full magazine.
